5.3-magnitude earthquake jolts Tibet, tremors felt in Nepal

A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck Tibet on Wednesday (September 9), with tremors also felt in neighbouring Nepal, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).

The earthquake originated at a depth of 35 kilometres, the EMSC said. India’s National Centre for Seismology (NCS), however, measured the quake at magnitude 5.0.

There were no immediate reports of deaths, injuries or major damage from the earthquake.

The tremor struck less than two weeks after devastating floods hit the Tibet-Nepal border region, killing and displacing thousands of people.
