Hurricane Lowell Triggers Tropical Storm Warning for Oahu and Hurricane Warning for Kauai

The National Hurricane Center issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Oahu as Hurricane Lowell approached Hawaii with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph.

The Category 3 hurricane was located approximately 355 miles southwest of Honolulu and was moving north-northeast toward the western Hawaiian Islands.

Weather conditions on Oahu are expected to deteriorate Monday afternoon, bringing strong winds, heavy rainfall, dangerous surf and an increased risk of flash flooding.

Kauai and Niihau remain under a Hurricane Warning, indicating that hurricane conditions are expected. Residents and visitors have been urged to complete preparations immediately and remain indoors once conditions become dangerous.
