Mayor, police update safety protocols ahead of Bumbershoot, 6 weeks after mass shooting

Barely six weeks after a deadly, mass shooting during the Bite of Seattle food festival at Seattle Center, tens of thousands are packing those same grounds for Bumbershoot's 53rd annual arts and music festival.

Ahead of the two-day event, Mayor Katie Wilson and Interim Police Chief Andre Sayles announced updated public safety protocols in the wake of the shooting and intense scrutiny over the handling of information following it.

Sayles also vowed to provide a press briefing to the media within an hour of future significant incidents, when it is safe and possible to do so, and periodically update information on Seattle police's social media accounts.
