Providence, Rhode Island releases review of response to Brown University mass shooting

SALEM, New Hampshire — The report states that it's unlikely the shooting could have been prevented, and recommends strengthening coordination among agencies to improve the response to large-scale emergencies.

Continuing to strengthen collaboration among Providence police, emergency services, and the Department of Telecommunications is one of the 18 recommendations included in the evaluation of the city’s response to the mass shooting at Brown University last December.

Overall, the report concludes that the police response was appropriate.

Providence Police Chief Oscar Pérez told Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra in Spanish that “in a very positive way, this document identifies and validates the strengths of the Providence Police Department." The report details how the investigation unfolded, including the use of automated license plate readers.
