JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — A man charged in connection with a deadly 2021 shooting outside a Jacksonville event center is expected in court Friday after being arrested earlier this month in Georgia.

Christopher Marques Jackson, 26, is scheduled to appear in Onslow County court August 21 in connection with the death of 25-year-old Dominique Rhodes. Court records show Jackson is charged with murder. An arrest warrant issued June 26 alleges Jackson killed Rhodes. Jacksonville police said Jackson was arrested around 6:30 a.m. Aug.

6 by the U.S. Marshals Service in Hampton, Georgia. The charge stems from a shooting that happened nearly five years ago outside the Sturgeon City Event Center on Court Street. Jacksonville police responded to reports of shots fired around 1:12 a.m. on Oct. 24, 2021.

Officers arrived and found Rhodes suffering from a gunshot wound outside the event center. First responders attempted to help him, but Rhodes was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said a second person, then-18-year-old Alexis Ramsay of Jacksonville, was also injured in the shooting.

Ramsay was taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital by private vehicle and later transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with serious injuries. The case remained under investigation for years before warrants for Jackson were issued on June 26.

Following Jackson's arrest, Jacksonville police emphasized the department's commitment to investigating homicides regardless of how much time has passed.
