Flash Flood Warning Issued for New York City Until 7:45 PM

A flash flood warning is in effect across New York City until 7:45 p.m. EDT on Thursday, August 20, as heavy rain threatens to flood highways, streets and other low-lying areas.
New York City Emergency Management warned that flooding could develop quickly and become life-threatening, particularly in basements and areas with poor drainage.
Dangerous travel conditions
Residents should never walk, bicycle or drive through floodwater. Water covering a roadway may be deeper and more dangerous than it appears.
Public transportation should be used when possible, but travelers should continue monitoring service changes and emergency alerts.
Basement flooding risk
Anyone inside a basement or below-ground apartment should remain alert and move to a higher floor if water begins rising or conditions worsen.
Residents should not wait for floodwater to enter their homes before moving to a safer location.
