Cyberattack Hits Two Berlin Government Departments in Germany

A cyberattack has disrupted two departments of Berlin’s state government in Germany, leaving employees without access to external email and internet services.
The attack affected the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing and the Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Environment and Climate Protection.
Departments Disconnected From State Network
Both departments were disconnected from Berlin’s state network on Friday as a security precaution after suspicious technical problems were detected.
Forensic examinations later determined that the disruption was caused by a cyberattack.
Employees have been unable to work remotely, while officials said the loss of internet and external email access has severely disrupted government operations.
Criminal Investigation Underway
Berlin’s State Criminal Police Office, public prosecutor’s office and Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security have joined the investigation.
Authorities also established an emergency crisis team to coordinate the response and protect government systems from further damage.
Officials have not disclosed who may be responsible for the attack or whether sensitive information was stolen.
The full extent of the damage remains under investigation, and no timeline has been announced for restoring normal network access.
