Severe Thunderstorm Warning Hits Peoria and Tazewell Counties, Illinois With 60 MPH Winds
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for southern Peoria County and Tazewell County, Illinois, as a line of powerful storms moves through the region with damaging wind gusts of up to 60 mph.
The warning was issued at approximately 2:23 a.m. CDT and remains in effect until 3:15 a.m. CDT Saturday.
The severe thunderstorms were moving east at around 40 mph, creating the potential for rapidly deteriorating conditions across central Illinois.
Communities in the path include Peoria, Pekin, East Peoria, Morton, Washington and Tremont, as well as areas near Peoria International Airport.
60 MPH Winds Threaten Central Illinois
Wind gusts reaching 60 mph could damage roofs and siding, bring down large tree branches and cause scattered power outages.
Residents across the warned area should remain indoors and stay away from windows while the strongest storms pass.
Drivers may encounter heavy rainfall, reduced visibility and debris on roads and should use additional caution.
People in Peoria and Tazewell counties should continue monitoring weather alerts in case additional warnings are issued as the storms move east across Illinois.
