SEPTA to Close Philadelphia’s 11th Street Station for One Year for Major Accessibility Upgrade
SEPTA will close 11th Street Station on Philadelphia’s Market-Frankford Line for one year beginning September 5, 2026, to carry out a major renovation aimed at making the station fully accessible.
The closure will run through August 30, 2027, during which Market-Frankford Line trains will bypass the station, and the underground concourse between 11th Street and 13th Street will be closed. The station serves more than 9,400 passengers each weekday.
The $44 million project includes the installation of two new elevators, upgraded lighting, a modern communications system, new flooring and wall tiles, improved wayfinding signage, structural repairs, and additional station facilities. SEPTA said the full closure will reduce the construction timeline by at least 10 months and save up to $3 million compared with a traditional phased renovation.
The project is funded in part by a Federal Transit Administration grant and is part of SEPTA’s broader accessibility initiative. Once completed, 27 of the 28 stations on the Market-Frankford Line will be fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
