LAPD: Suspect shot, killed after threatening people with baseball bat in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES — A man armed with a baseball bat was shot and killed by Los Angeles police officers Wednesday evening after allegedly threatening pedestrians and striking several occupied vehicles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The incident began at approximately 6:25 p.m., when officers from the LAPD’s Olympic Division responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon near Normandie Avenue and Washington Boulevard.
Police said callers reported that the adult male suspect was threatening passersby with a baseball bat and had struck multiple occupied vehicles.
When officers arrived, they encountered the suspect on Normandie Avenue beneath the Interstate 10 Freeway, where an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken into custody.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported the suspect to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police said no officers or community members were injured during the incident.
The suspect’s baseball bat was recovered at the scene and will be booked into evidence. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, and the area around Normandie Avenue and the I-10 Freeway underpass is expected to be impacted for several hours.
