Heavy rain continues across southern New England as flash flood threat persists

SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND — Periods of moderate to heavy rain continue across southern New England today, with the risk of flash flooding remaining elevated through this evening.

Weather officials warn that the greatest flood threat will occur beneath bands of heavy rainfall and in locations that experience continuous rain with little or no break, where water can quickly accumulate.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads, monitor local weather alerts, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions as the rain continues.
