Building the pipeline The foundation's efforts begin years before students enter the workforce.

President and Board Chair Thomas J Hall says aviation can give students a way to explore science, technology and hands-on skills while exposing them to potential careers.

“Aviation is a window for exploration, learning, excitement," Hall said. That approach is being built into programs across Washoe County.

Students can continue through the district's aviation academy before pursuing aerospace engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno.

The foundation has also pledged $36 million toward establishing an aerospace engineering department at UNR.
