Tornado Watch issued for parts of Kansas until 11 PM CDT

A Tornado Watch has been issued for parts of Kansas until 11:00 PM CDT Wednesday, September 30, as severe thunderstorms threaten the region.

Forecasters say a few tornadoes are likely, with isolated hail up to quarter size and wind gusts reaching 70 mph possible.

The watch area includes communities around Russell, Great Bend, Salina, Lindsborg, McPherson, Hutchinson, Junction City and Emporia.

Around 464,000 people are within the watch area, along with 287 schools and 35 hospitals.

A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop. Residents should remain alert and be prepared to take shelter quickly if a Tornado Warning is issued.
