Disabled vehicle struck by train in Salem

An unoccupied vehicle was struck by a train the morning of Sept. 30 causing street closures for approximately three hours in Salem.

Official response and confirmed impact

The owner was unable to move the car off the tracks as a train approached, police said.

The train could not stop in time and struck the vehicle at a low speed.

No one was injured and the owner remained on scene, police said.

Multiple streets along the tracks between Front Street and Maple Avenue NE were closed until approximately 8 a.m., police said.
