Partnership with ICE to strengthen immigration enforcement Announced by Indiana attorney general

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita said his office has entered an agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement under Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Rokita said the partnership will give investigators more authority to work with immigration officials and help protect Hoosiers.

He is urging all 92 county sheriffs to participate, saying the agreements can improve public safety, provide access to federal funding and potentially reduce pressure on local property taxes.

“A 287(g) agreement with ICE does exactly that—giving our investigators greater ability to work side by side with them and take stronger action to protect Hoosiers.”

Rokita said six of Indiana’s 92 sheriffs have signed an agreement like this.

He said the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association should work to make sure all 92 offices participate.
