Netanyahu says Flydubai FZ1073 pilot stabbed colleague and tried to crash plane before passengers intervened

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said one of the pilots aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073 stabbed the other pilot and apparently tried to crash the Dubai-to-Tel Aviv flight with everyone on board.

According to Netanyahu, the aircraft entered a dangerous dive before an Israeli passenger and a crew member managed to force their way into the cockpit and overpower the attacking pilot.

He said the suspect was still trying to interfere with the aircraft’s systems when he was restrained.

Netanyahu added that other qualified flight crew who were traveling aboard the plane then entered the cockpit and helped stabilize the aircraft.

The Boeing 737 MAX was diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely.

Netanyahu said all passengers were out of danger and praised those who intervened, saying their actions prevented a major disaster.

He also said the suspected attacking pilot was arrested and is being questioned by Saudi authorities.

Israel is continuing to coordinate with the relevant authorities regarding the passengers and the investigation, while security agencies have been instructed to prepare for possible additional threats.
