Fire Breaks Out Aboard 200-Foot Vessel Near Piney Point Lighthouse

Firefighters responded Tuesday morning to a large vessel fire near the Piney Point Lighthouse in St. Mary’s County.

Fire response and evacuations

The incident was reported around 8:45 a.m. on September 29, 2026, in the area of Lighthouse Road.

Crews arrived to find a roughly 200-foot vessel near the dock with a fire in the engine compartment.

The fire was brought under control by approximately 9:05 a.m. Crews remained on the scene Tuesday morning as operations continued.
