Man confirmed dead after explosion at flats in Rotherham

A man has been confirmed dead following an explosion at a residential property in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Clifton Mount at around 1:18 p.m., where the man was found dead at the scene.

Fire crews from Rotherham and Tankersley attended as the area was secured, while police and firefighters began investigating the cause of the explosion.

Cadent Gas said checks found no problem with its gas network, while South Yorkshire Police said initial inquiries indicated there was no risk to the wider community.

Clifton Mount was temporarily closed during the emergency response but has since reopened.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet released the identity of the man who died.
