Video: Trump Says RAF Fairford Suspects Should Not Have Been Released on Bail

President Donald Trump has criticised the release on bail of five men arrested near RAF Fairford, saying the United States would have kept them in custody.

“We know everything about them. We would have not released them,” Trump said, referring to the suspects in the investigation near the Gloucestershire airbase used by American forces.

His remarks followed British counter-terrorism police’s announcement on Monday, September 28, that the men were being released under strict conditions while inquiries continued.

Police say RAF Fairford investigation remains active

Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, head of UK Counter Terrorism Policing, said the decision followed extensive interviews and investigative work.

The men face restrictions on their movements and contact with other people. Taylor stressed that their release did not mean the investigation had ended.

Investigators were pursuing multiple lines of inquiry and keeping an open mind about the circumstances and possible motivation.

Five men arrested after suspicious vehicles reported

Armed officers arrested the men early Sunday, September 27, after police received a report about suspicious vehicles near RAF Fairford.

They were detained on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act and subsequently on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act.

Police said the men had been travelling in three vehicles, which underwent extensive examination with military and forensic support.
