Len Nikolai Cross Country Meet Highlights Busy High School Sports Saturday

It’ll be a busy Saturday in high school sports on the Lakeshore.

First, multiple schools will converge on Meadow Links Golf Course in Manitowoc today for the Len Nikolai Cross Country Invitational.

The meet is named in recognition of the Hall of Fame Coach who began his coaching career in 1968 as the head boy’s cross-country coach at Manitowoc Lincoln high school then took on the responsibility of coaching the Ships track and field team in 1982 and the girls cross country program at LHS in 1987, During his 45 year tenure, Nikolai led the Shipbuilders to 15 FRCC Cross Country championships, including six straight from 1968 to 1973 and brought at least one athlete to the WIAA State cross country meet a whopping 41 times.

Races are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

Meanwhile, Kohler, De Pere and Ashwaubenon are in the field of a meet hosted by Lourdes Academy of Oshkosh.

The Manitowoc Lincoln Ships host Green Bay West in their annual Homecoming football game this afternoon at Ron Rubick Field.
