March fire that killed Minnesota Wild reporter was an accident — Minnesota Fire Marshal

Minnesota Fire Marshal Dan Krier says a preliminary investigation of a March fire that killed Minnesota hockey journalist Jessi Pierce and her three kids shows that the fire was started accidentally.

The investigation determined that the fire originated from a power strip or extension cord before spreading through the house.

According to Krier, use of such electrical devices is common in homes manufactured in the 1950’s and 1960’s since they often contain fewer power outlets.

“They had to bring power from an adjacent room through the extension cord, something that can be very common in homes of this era,” Krier said.
