Secret Service announces major Washington road closures for Xi Jinping’s state visit

The U.S. Secret Service has announced major road closures and traffic restrictions in downtown Washington, D.C., as security preparations intensify for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to the United States.

Xi is expected to arrive in the Washington area on Wednesday ahead of official events in the capital.

The Secret Service warned commuters to expect rolling road closures between Joint Base Andrews and downtown Washington during Wednesday evening’s commute.

Among the streets scheduled to remain closed from Wednesday morning through Friday afternoon are 12th Street between Constitution Avenue and E Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue between 9th Street and 13th Street NW.

Additional restrictions and temporary closures are expected around downtown Washington as security operations continue.

Authorities are advising drivers to allow extra travel time and use alternate routes during the visit.
