‘Soul Train’ expands in Century to rebuild childcare after town’s only daycare closed

– The Town of Century's only daycare closed in July. That left families without care and employees without jobs.

Now, there's a program that is stepping up to fill the gap. "Soul Train" is working to rebuild childcare in that area.

When Camp Fire Learning Center closed it left qualified childcare employees without jobs. The executive director of Soul Train in Century, Evelyn Deterville, recognized that loss.

She says she values keeping jobs in Century, and not forcing families to leave the town for childcare.

That's why she invited two Camp Fire employees who are qualified to work in early childhood development to work with children at Soul Train.

Historically, Deterville's program has served youth, but now it's expanding to serve children two years old and up.

"We're just gonna meet them where they're at. Follow the curriculum," Deterville said. "We just are so excited.

Those fields out there are going to have little feet running around.
