Flight LS676 took off from the Spanish Island at 7:05pm on Friday and was bound for Nottingham, but was forced to divert to the mainland after a passenger suffered fatal medical emergency. The traveller is reported to be in his 70s, but his nationality is not yet known.
Island newspaper Diario de Avisos said crew members had alerted air traffic control that a man on the plane required urgent medical attention. After an emergency landing at Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport, the man was handed over to the emergency services – but despite immediate treatment on arrival, he was tragically pronounced dead on the runway.
