Miami, Florida-Dade authorities name 5 victims killed in cargo plane crash

MIAMI INTERNATIONAL, Florida — Authorities have identified the five people killed after a cargo plane overran a runway and crashed near Miami International Airport on Sunday, as investigators continue to examine the deadly incident.

Casualties and emergency response

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as Rolando Aleman Leon, 55; Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53; Julio C.

6 near Northwest 67th Avenue and North Perimeter Road, just west of the airport, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel responding to the scene found several people dead and others injured.

Two people remained in critical condition, while another was listed in stable condition.

The two pilots, identified as Jaime Felipe Silva Molina, 37, and Joseph Carol, 55, suffered minor injuries and were released.

Plane crash under investigation

The Sheriff’s Office Homicide Bureau is leading the death investigation and is working with local and federal agencies as authorities continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
