UPDATE: Heathrow Flights Reportedly Diverted to Amsterdam and Paris

Flights bound for London Heathrow are reportedly being diverted to Amsterdam Schiphol, Paris Charles de Gaulle and other European airports amid disruption caused by a NATS air traffic control fault, according to @Runway_Report12.

NATS has since announced that it has implemented a fix, with its flight processing system beginning to recover.

Heathrow Arrivals Also Affected

Heathrow initially said arriving flights were unaffected, but a subsequent airport statement confirmed disruption to both arrivals and departures.

The report from @Runway_Report12 named Amsterdam (AMS) and Paris (CDG) as diversion destinations but did not provide individual flight numbers or a confirmed total of affected aircraft.

NATS Announces Fix as Recovery Begins

In its 4:40 p.m. statement on September 8, NATS said it was working with airlines and airports to restore operations after fixing the technical fault.

The air traffic control provider had earlier confirmed that UK airspace remained open, although recovery would take time.

British Airways Contacts Customers

British Airways said it was experiencing disruption and contacting affected customers.

Heathrow advised passengers to check with their airline for the latest flight information and travel to the airport only if their flight is confirmed.
