New Haven, Connecticut teen killed man after marijuana deal turned into a robbery, warrant says

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut — NEW HAVEN — Thaddeus Lowery was shy of his 16th birthday in December 2024 when he shot and killed a man during a marijuana deal in New Haven that turned into an armed robbery, according to an arrest warrant.
Victims and police response
Officers were dispatched to a rear parking lot in the 700 block of George Street around 3:24 p.m. Dec.
2, 2024, and found Santana in the driver's seat of a car suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound, the warrant says.
He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital and later pronounced dead, police said.
A passenger in the car at the time of the shooting told police that Santana had said he was headed to George Street to sell marijuana in a prearranged deal, the warrant says.
Soon after they pulled into the parking lot, two males wearing ski masks approached the car, according to the warrant, and Santana's companion opened the passenger door and the two males said they wanted to smell the marijuana.
The masked males then said they would buy a bag, but one suddenly pulled out a handgun and said, "Give us everything you have," the warrant says.
Shooting investigation
Lowery, now 17, of New Haven is charged with murder, murder in commission of a felony and carrying a pistol without a permit in the fatal shooting of Christopher Santana, 25, of New Haven.
