1 dead after plane makes emergency landing

One person is dead after a small plane made an emergency landing in northern B.C. Thursday afternoon, police have confirmed. Authorities said the aircraft came down on Prince George’s Foothills Boulevard around 2:20 p.m. Two vehicles were damaged during the emergency landing, according to Prince George RCMP.

Latest Details

The person who died was in one of those vehicles, not the plane—and it’s unclear whether anyone else was injured. In a statement, Cpl. Jennifer Cooper urged the public to keep away from the scene to make room for emergency responders.

“It removes valuable police resources from this investigation as well as the regular calls for service if RCMP must station police officers at every access point to Foothills Boulevard to keep the curious onlookers away, of which there have already been too many,” Cooper said.

“Please allow room for our first responders to work safely.” The cause of the emergency landing will be investigated by the Transportation Safety Board. Authorities said Foothills Boulevard will be closed to traffic into Friday, and that drivers should plan for an alternative route. This is a developing story and will be updated.
