The warning remains in effect until 4:30 p.m. EDT Monday.
Storms Moving East
Severe thunderstorms were detected moving east at approximately 20 mph.
The warning covers Anderson and Campbell counties, along with portions of Claiborne, Scott and Union counties.
Communities in the storms’ path include Oliver Springs, Jacksboro, Harrogate, Jellico, Caryville, Rocky Top and Norris.
Damaging Winds and Flooding Possible
Wind gusts could damage roofs, siding and trees. Penny-sized hail is also possible.
Torrential rainfall may cause flash flooding, including along Interstate 75 between mile markers 119 and 161.
Residents should move inside a strong building, stay away from windows and never drive across flooded roads.
Severe Storm Risk Targets Ozarks and Mid-Mississippi Valley Wednesday
A slight risk of severe thunderstorms has been issued for portions of the Ozarks and Mid-Mississippi Valley on Wednesday, August 19, with tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds possible.
The greatest concern covers parts of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas, where a concentrated corridor of powerful storms may develop.
Supercells and Tornadoes Possible
Strong atmospheric instability and favorable wind conditions could allow supercell thunderstorms to form along a frontal boundary.
Some storms may produce tornadoes, large hail and severe wind gusts.
Storms Possible Across Central U.S.
Additional strong or severe thunderstorms could develop from the central High Plains into the northern Plains.
Storms forming near the Colorado Rockies may move into adjacent areas Wednesday afternoon, producing damaging winds and hail.
Residents across the affected areas should monitor updated forecasts and be prepared to seek shelter if warnings are issued.
