Flávio Bolsonaro Reportedly Leaves Brazil for United States After Election Defeat

Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro has left Brazil for the United States after losing Sunday’s presidential election, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing two sources.
The reported departure comes after Bolsonaro missed a Supreme Court deadline to surrender his passports. Brazil’s Federal Police subsequently cancelled the documents.
Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes had prohibited Bolsonaro from leaving the country. The restrictions are connected to a money-laundering investigation in which the senator denies wrongdoing.
On Monday, Bolsonaro said he would hand over his passports and denied planning to leave Brazil.
Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, was defeated by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the October 25 presidential runoff. His precise travel route and destination within the United States remained unclear.
