A grain bin fire caused evacuations and road closures in a southeast Kansas town Thursday.

The Woodson County Emergency Manager confirmed a fire inside a Piqua Co-op bin.

He added that firefighters have to slowly drain the bin to prevent stirring up dust and creating an explosion hazard.

Piqua residents were asked to evacuate the area for the time being. Nearby U.S. Highway 54 was also shut down.

No injuries or structural losses have been reported at this time.

Multiple Kansas fire and emergency crews are on scene, as well as the Kansas Department of Transportation.
