Winnipeg drownings

WINNIPEG — Two men died Saturday in separate drowning incidents near Winnipeg, RCMP confirmed.

Officers were first called to Renolds Ponds, about 82 kilometres east of Winnipeg, after reports that a male swimmer failed to resurface. A 70-year-old man from Ontario was pulled from the water but did not survive.

Just hours later, police responded to a beach northwest of Winnipeg where two men had been using a pool flotation device on the lake. They lost their balance and fell into the water. A nearby kayaker rescued one man, but the other, a 25-year-old Winnipeg resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate both drownings as the community mourns these tragic losses.
