• University of Georgia Police Department arrested 26-year-old Jose Antonio Ibarra in connection to 22-year-old Laken Riley’s death.
• Ibarra, an illegal immigrant and not UGA student, had no personal acquaintance with Riley, police said.
• DHS confirms Ibarra’s illegal status from Venezuela, entering in September 2022 via El Paso, Texas, released due to ‘detention space shortage.’
• University of Georgia Police Chief Jeff Clark stated at a news conference Friday: “He saw an individual and bad things happened.”
• Expected charges against Ibarra include malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, hindering a 911 call, and concealing the death of another.
• Riley’s body discovered on the UGA campus Thursday after her jog; cause of death attributed to blunt force trauma.
