The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is addressing an overflow of inquiries about the unfolding situation at Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville, Illinois. Superintendent Susan Harkin has issued a reassuring statement: “Please know, there is no incident occurring inside or outside the building. All students and staff are safe and under district and building supervision. The lockdown was instituted as a precautionary measure.”

Contrary to reports of an active shooter, the Superintendent emphasizes that safety measures are purely precautionary. Police, fire departments, and medical teams are on-site to ensure the safety and security of not just the students, but teachers, residents, and first responders.

For parents and guardians, Superintendent Harkin has also outlined in an email that the lockdown affects school drop-off. No one is currently allowed to enter or exit the building. Students who are walkers, bike riders, or being dropped off are advised to wait for further instructions. Those taking bus transportation must stay on their buses until the lockdown is lifted.
