Update: Brown University Condemns Doxxing of Student to Campus Shooting

Brown University has released a statement condemning the online doxxing of a student whose name has been widely circulated on social media in connection with the campus shooting, emphasizing that the individual is not a suspect and has no known involvement in the incident.

University officials said the spread of personal information has caused harm to an uninvolved student and warned against online speculation and vigilantism. Brown stressed that only law enforcement authorities are responsible for identifying suspects and urged the public to rely solely on verified information released by police.

“The individual whose name is circulating online is not connected to the investigation,” the university said in its statement, adding that harassment, threats, or dissemination of private information violate university policies and basic standards of safety.

Providence Police have similarly cautioned against misinformation, reiterating that the investigation remains active and that false claims can interfere with law enforcement efforts and place innocent people at risk.

Brown University said it is working to support affected students while continuing to cooperate fully with authorities as the investigation continues.
