At Least 37 Dead After Bus Plunges Into Ravine in Southern Peru’s Arequipa Region

A devastating bus accident in southern Peru early Wednesday morning has claimed the lives of at least 37 passengers, with several others seriously injured, according to local reports.

The interprovincial bus, carrying over 40 passengers, was traveling along the Panamericana Sur highway when it veered off the road and fell into a 200-meter ravine near kilometer 781, in the district of Ocoña, Arequipa.

Emergency services, including police and firefighters, rushed to the remote crash site to rescue survivors and recover victims. Photos from the scene show the bus wreckage scattered across the steep terrain.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, which is believed to have occurred during heavy fog and poor road conditions.
