Level 3 Weather Alert: Severe Derecho Threatens NE Switzerland, Southern Germany, and Czechia

A Level 3 severe weather warning has been issued for parts of northeastern Switzerland, southern Germany (Bavaria), and Czechia, due to the threat of widespread damaging wind gusts and large to extremely large hail.

A rapidly organizing MCS (Mesoscale Convective System), potentially evolving into a derecho, is expected to sweep northeastward into Bavaria during the evening and late evening hours. Forecast models indicate peak wind gusts exceeding 120 km/h, with hail sizes reaching 5 cm or more, particularly along embedded supercells within the convective line.

In addition to the high wind and hail risk, tornadoes cannot be ruled out, though limited low-level shear keeps the threat lower.

Residents in the affected areas are urged to stay alert, follow updates, and take necessary precautions.
