Heavy Rain Triggers Deadly Mountain Torrents in Yuzhong County, Northwest China

Continuous heavy rainfall in Yuzhong County, Gansu Province, has caused mountain torrents resulting in 10 deaths and 33 people missing as of Friday evening, local authorities reported.
The rainfall reached up to 220.2 mm by midday Friday, severely impacting several townships with damage to roads, power, communications, farmland flooding, and destroyed homes.
More than 9,800 residents have been relocated to safe areas, and 443 trapped individuals have been rescued so far.
A red alert — China’s highest warning level for geological disasters — was issued for Yuzhong and nearby areas. Lanzhou city raised its flood emergency response to Level I, the highest level.
Over 2,700 rescue personnel, 980 vehicles and machinery, and 8,530 sets of emergency supplies have been deployed for search and rescue, infrastructure repair, and evacuations.
