Weld County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Melissa Chesmore stated there was no evidence of criminal activity, indicating the incident appears to be accidental. The local Keenesburg Police Department was not involved in the response.

State occupational safety regulators are leading the investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident. The identities and ages of the victims have not been released. The dairy facility is located along a rural road approximately 35 miles northeast of Denver.
