Camp Counselor Identified as Chloe Childress, 19, Among Texas Flood Victims

Chloe Childress, a 19-year-old recent graduate of The Kinkaid School in Houston, has been identified as one of the victims of the deadly flooding in Kerr County, Texas.
Childress was serving as a counselor at Camp Mystic, where she had hoped to spend the summer mentoring young girls.
“She was looking forward to dedicating her summer days to loving and mentoring young girls,” her family said in a statement. “While we know that her joy is now eternal and her faith has become sight, our hearts are shattered by this loss – and by the heartbreak of other families like ours.”
Jonathan Eades, head of The Kinkaid School, remembered Chloe as someone with “a remarkable way of making people feel seen.”
“She was wise beyond her years, with a steady compassion that settled a room,” Eades added. “She lost her life upholding this selfless and fierce commitment to others.”
Childress is among at least 27 campers and staff confirmed dead after record-breaking floods swept through the Guadalupe River area. Search efforts continue for the missing.
