Budget Airliner Plunges Toward Sea at 300mph After Takeoff from Sicily

An Airbus A320 operated by budget carrier Air Arabia reportedly hurtled toward the sea at nearly 300 mph just seconds after takeoff from Catania Airport in Sicily, Italy.

The aircraft, bound for Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan, departed at 9:57 p.m. on September 20 when it suffered what investigators described as a “serious incident.” According to the Italian aviation accident investigation agency (ANSV), the crew received a Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS) “PULL UP” alert, indicating that the plane was dangerously close to the ground or sea surface.

The pilots managed to regain altitude and continue the flight safely, avoiding a potential disaster. Authorities have since launched an investigation to determine what caused the sudden descent.

No injuries were reported, and officials emphasized that a full safety review is underway to prevent similar incidents in the future.
