Brussels Police Lift Security Lockdown Near Palace Cinema After Bomb Threat
The area around Palace Cinema was evacuated for two hours after a bomb threat. Metro and tram services were temporarily suspended but have now resumed.

Brussels, July 29, 2025 – Police in Brussels set up a two-hour security perimeter in the heart of the city on Monday afternoon following a bomb threat near the Palace Cinema, located close to Beursplein.
At approximately 4:45 PM local time, the lockdown was lifted after thorough police checks in the area. The evacuation included the cinema and nearby metro stations, as authorities responded to a potentially serious threat.
“We can confirm that we evacuated and searched the area around the Palace Cinema and nearby metro stations due to a bomb threat,” said police spokesperson Linda Camarero-Verde.
🚇 Metro and Tram Services Disrupted
During the operation, metro and tram services were suspended in the affected zones. Although service has mostly resumed, disruptions continue:
- Trams are not stopping at Beurs, Anneessens, and De Brouckère.
- Metro lines 1 and 5 are currently bypassing De Brouckère station.
- Anneessens, Beurs, and De Brouckère remain inaccessible via metro or premetro.
The public transport operator MIVB confirmed these updates and advised commuters to plan alternative routes.
The cause and credibility of the bomb threat remain under investigation. There were no immediate reports of injuries or arrests.
Authorities continue to monitor the area and have thanked residents and commuters for their cooperation during the disruption.
