Jackson County, Illinois shooting: SIU professor Killedwoman arrested

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting at 5 p.m. Saturday off of Lake Road between Murphysboro and Carbondale, Illinois.

The deceased victim was identified as Southern Illinois University professor Kofi Akamani.

JCSO said that the victim of the shooting, 48-year-old Kofi Akamani, was taken to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale where he was pronounced dead due to sustained injuries.

Akamani was a professor in SIU Carbondale’s Department of Forestry. According to the university’s website, he taught courses in forest recreation and conservation social science.
