Two men were arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences in Manchester city centre on Sunday afternoon as part of an ongoing counter-terrorism investigation.

The arrests were made on Newton Street at around 2:45 p.m., prompting a major police response in the Northern Quarter.

Counter-terrorism officers were deployed to the area, and a large cordon remained in place into Sunday evening while investigators continued their work.
