U.S. Tightens Saudi Travel Rules, Requires Special Authorization for Taif and Yanbu

The U.S. Mission in Saudi Arabia has issued a new security alert requiring American government employees in the kingdom to obtain special authorization for all official and personal travel to Taif and Yanbu.

The restriction was announced on September 20 because of the ongoing security situation in Saudi Arabia and represents an expansion of existing travel restrictions for U.S. government personnel.

The State Department already advises Americans to reconsider travel to Saudi Arabia, citing risks including missile and drone attacks, armed conflict and terrorism. (Travel.gov)

Regular and emergency consular services remain available for U.S. citizens through the U.S. Embassy and consulates in Saudi Arabia.

The U.S. Mission urged Americans in the kingdom to remain vigilant, monitor official security updates and follow recommended safety precautions as regional tensions continue.
