Moldova Reports Suspected Drone Flight and Sky Explosion, Investigation Continues

A flash lit up the night sky, but searches revealed no clear trace of what witnesses believed they had seen.

On the night of Sunday, September 20, residents of Moldova’s Orhei and Călărași districts reported an unidentified aircraft resembling a drone to the police. Witnesses also reported a bright flash and an explosion in the sky.

At around 1:50 a.m., a resident of the village of Berezlogi contacted the Orhei police. He said he had spotted an object resembling a drone in the sky.

Approximately ten minutes later, a resident of the village of Dereneu reported a bright flash to the Călărași police, followed by an explosion. Law enforcement officers inspected the indicated locations, including areas outside the settlements.

They found no debris, impact marks, or signs of fire that could confirm an explosion on the ground or the crash of an aircraft.

The Moldovan police continue to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
