Explosions Reported Near Taif Airport as Incoming Flights Enter Holding Patterns

Large explosions were reported near Taif Airport in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night as incoming aircraft were seen entering holding patterns instead of proceeding directly to land.

The reports come amid a broader wave of Houthi missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities said earlier Saturday that attacks targeting Taif and several other locations had been thwarted. 

I have not yet found an official statement confirming whether Taif Airport itself was hit, whether air defenses intercepted a threat nearby, or whether airport operations were formally suspended.

So the safest wording for now is that explosions were heard near Taif Airport and inbound flights were holding while the situation developed.
