Ontario, New York woman arrested on 144 animal cruelty counts after cats allegedly deprived 18 days

A Town of Ontario woman is facing more than 100 animal cruelty charges after a Wayne County Sheriff’s Office investigation into a complaint.

Arrest and charges

Deputies arrested 28-year-old Corinne Speights of Ontario on a total of 144 counts of animal cruelty for failure to provide sustenance, food or drink, and four counts of animal abandonment, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators allege that over a period of 18 days, Speights abandoned and deprived four cats of necessary sustenance by confining and sheltering them in an unsanitary environment and not providing them food or drink.

Wayne County sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at Speights’ property and seized three of the four cats.

Deputies reported the inside of the residence was covered in trash and cat and dog feces and urine.

Charges and court proceedings

The cats were turned over to the Humane Society of Wayne County. Speights was issued an appearance ticket for Town of Ontario Court.
