Police seek CCTV after woman found dead, homicide inquiry launched

Police have launched a homicide investigation after a woman’s body was discovered in a northern Wellington suburb this morning.

Inspector Haley Ryan said emergency services were called to Gahagan Way in Newlands about 4am. On arrival, the woman was found dead inside a property.
Ryan said police were speaking to a man, who was assisting with their inquiries, and a scene guard was currently in place.
Residents are advised to expect an increased police presence in the area as inquiries continue.
“There is not believed to be any risk to the public following this incident,” Ryan said.
“We’re interested in any CCTV or dashcam footage from Gahagan Way, or surrounding streets, including Newlands Rd and Stewart Dr, between 12pm Friday and 5am today,” Ryan said.

As part of the inquiries, police said they wanted to speak to anyone with information or who witnessed suspicious activity in the area overnight.
