Worker Trapped Inside Excavator After Heavy Equipment Falls at Bridgeport Work Site

A worker was trapped inside an excavator after a large piece of heavy equipment fell onto it at a Bridgeport work site Thursday.

Bridgeport police and firefighters responded to 1 Cross St. following reports of a person trapped inside the excavator.

Officials said the accident occurred when a large piece of equipment fell onto the excavator, leaving the worker trapped inside.

Fairfield firefighters also responded with their heavy rescue squad to assist Bridgeport crews with the operation.

Emergency crews were working to extricate the worker, who officials said was conscious and alert.
